Tuesday's European Under-21 Championship predictions

Spain and Italy have already secured their places in the quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championship, but they will do battle in the final round of group games for top spot in Group A.

Late goals have been the order of the day for Spain, who needed a last-minute strike from Cesar Tarrega to overcome hosts Slovakia 3-2 in their opener, while they trailed Romania 1-0 with only five minutes remaining of normal time before prevailing 2-1.

Italy, on the other hand, have been forced to grind out 1-0 wins over Slovakia and Romania and their showdown with Spain may not be the most memorable of group deciders.

La Roja found their equaliser against Romania only after the 84th-minute sending-off of Vladislav Blanuta and until that point the underdogs had done a good job of soaking up the pressure.

So, following two clean sheets, the Azzurri may be hopeful of restricting Spain and as both are already through they could cancel each other out.

The dead rubber between Romania and Slovakia makes limited punting appeal, but there is plenty on the line in Group C, where Portugal, France and Georgia are still in with a chance of topping the section.

France are 2-7 to overcome already-eliminated Poland, who have lost 2-1 to Georgia and were thrashed 5-0 by Portugal, and Les Bleus should ease to victory.

Georgia showed their quality in their 3-2 defeat to France, who grabbed the winner through Thierno Berry 12 minutes into stoppage time, and they could be set for an entertaining finish against Portugal.

Rui Jorge’s Portugal put five past Poland last time out, when Sporting’s Geovany Quenda impressed with a first-half brace, and that means that seven of their last 11 internationals have featured four or more goals.
