European Under 21-Championship match predictions

Portugal were slightly disappointed with a 0-0 draw against France in their opening match at the European Under-21 Championship but they can push on with a win over Group C basement boys Poland.

Success at the Under-21 Championship has always eluded Portugal, whose best efforts were runners-up finishes in 1994, 2015 and 2021.

However, they are aiming to be major players this summer and showed some encouraging signs against France by playing front-foot football and winning the shot count 16 to 13.

Rui Jorge's side caused France problems with their energy and intensity and they should find a cutting edge against Poland, who have their backs against the wall after a 2-1 loss to Georgia.

Poland were well fancied before their opening match but never looked in control and paid the price when Vasilios Gordeziani's 94th-minute goal settled the outcome for the Georgians, who have taken over at the top of the section.

Georgia's next challenge is to take on France and they are not without hope of adding to their points tally.

France had to qualify via the playoffs and they struggled for rhythm for large parts of their 0-0 draw against Portugal.

Gerald Baticle's side would hope to pick up plenty of points in their remaining group matches, but they face a serious test against Georgia, who can at least make the contest competitive.

Georgia are attractively priced to avoid defeat and can be backed at a shade of odds-on with a 1.5-goal Asian handicap start, meaning a successful wager as long as they avoid losing by more than one goal.
