England Women vs Ghana Women preview

England head to St Mary's to take on Ghana fresh from sticking eight past an uninterested China side, and another one-sided affair is expected.

The Black Queens have played five full internationals against European countries over the years and lost the lot by an aggregate scoreline of 31-2.

A repeat of the 11-0 drubbing they took off Germany in Paderborn in 2016 is unlikely, but this is still a mismatch.

The Ghanaians have played 19 full internationals against non-African countries, winning just once – 2-1 against Australia 22 years ago – and losing 16 times.

"England will be one of the toughest games my team has ever faced," said their head coach Kim Lars Bjorkergren, before adding pointedly, "it's going to be really tough and we need to understand that."

This is about how many Sarina Wiegman's side want to score and having just thrashed China 8-0 they will presume any number is possible.

Wiegman is missing key figures throughout her squad and has plenty of new faces but critically her attack is close to fully staffed, although she admits that she will be managing the minutes of her WSL aces.

Either way, they were 5-0 up on China by half-time on Saturday and another fast start is on the cards, so back them to have a comfortable half-time lead in Southampton.
