Match preview

Hull and Brentford received plaudits for their performances against two of the Premier League's top sides last weekend but now their attention returns to the Sky Bet Championship.

The Bees made nine changes for their FA Cup tie with Leicester and could count themselves unlucky to lose 1-0. Another East Midlands side took the points from Griffin Park on Tuesday as a defeat to Nottingham Forest dented the automatic promotion hopes of Thomas Frank's men.

Hull also lost at home on Tuesday when Huddersfield defeated them 2-1. That was a third successive league loss for the Tigers since they won at Sheffield Wednesday on New Year's Day. Those kind of results need to be halted if Hull are going to make a charge for the playoffs.

Two of the hottest strikers in the division should have been in action. Ollie Watkins has scored 18 goals for Brentford this season with reports that Chelsea may look to sign him at the end of the season.

But Hull are now without Jarrod Bowen, who has one goal fewer than Watkins in the race for the Golden Boot. Bowen has been crucial to Hull this season as their next-highest scorer is Tom Eaves with only four. But he has now put pen to paper on a deal with West Ham.

Both players were on the scoresheet when sides drew 1-1 at Griffin Park in August.

Hull will be desperate to improve their home record having lost seven times in 15 Championship matches at the KCom Stadium this season.

A 3-0 victory over Birmingham before Christmas was a third straight home win but they have not taken a point in three matches since.

Brentford's defensive record has been one of the reasons that they have realistic hopes of starting life in their new stadium as a Premier League club. The Bees have conceded just 22 goals in 29 matches and have not conceded twice in a league fixture since October.

They have scored plenty of goals too with 44 - only the top two teams in the division have scored more.

With the exception of a 5-1 win in February, Brentford have not enjoyed their recent fixtures against Hull, failing to win the other six of their last seven meetings, but they can take the points to keep up their promotion push.

Key stat

Only the top two teams in the division have scored more than Brentford.
