Bundesliga 2: Holstein Kiel v Magdeburg
7.30pm Monday

Holstein Kiel are one of the more capable sides in Bundesliga 2 and they can move up the table by beating Magdeburg at the Holstein-Stadion on Monday night.

Holstein got their season off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory away at Hamburg - a result that is even more impressive when you consider Hamburg have won both of their subsequent league games 3-0.

Since then Holstein have had to settle for a pair of draws - 1-1 at home to Heidenheim and 0-0 away to Regensburg.

There may not have been many happy campers after the Heidenheim result as it's a game Holstein should have won, but they had to play most of the second half with ten men after defender Johannes van den Bergh was sent off.

If they can keep 11 players on the pitch this time the Holstein fans should be celebrating a home win, as Magdeburg may lack the firepower to break down a stubborn Storks defence.

There were high hopes for Magdeburg after they were promoted last season as Bundesliga 3 champions.

But including a German Cup defeat to Darmstadt, Magdeburg have scored only two goals in four games this season, three of them at home, and they are yet to record a victory.

Their defence hasn't been that bad, but if they can't score more goals it will be a long, hard season and they simply may not have the quality to compete at this level.

Holstein are a shade of odds-on to win the game in 90 minutes, but braver punters should consider backing them to win and keep a clean sheet.

Recommendation
Holstein Kiel to win to nil
