Having suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Harrogate in their EFL Trophy opener, Mansfield need a victory over Newcastle Under-21s in a bid to keep their qualification hopes from Group F alive and Nigel Clough's squad should be refreshed after Saturday’s scheduled League One clash with Stevenage was postponed due to international call-ups.

The Stags should have too much quality for the young Magpies, who endured a 6-2 hiding away to Huddersfield in their first EFL Trophy assignment, but nine games without a clean sheet suggests that they may have to settle for a high-scoring success.

Both teams have scored in each of Newcastle's last six matches, which offers hope of them getting on the scoresheet, but they have won only one of their last eight games and they have played Mansfield twice in this competition within the last four seasons, losing 6-3 and 3-0.
