Football accumulator tips for Monday 1 August: Nordsjaelland spearhead 8-1 acca

Low-scoring encounter looks likely at Vicarage Road

The opening weekend of the Championship season concludes on Monday as Watford play host to Sheffield United and it promises to be an informative fixture at Vicarage Road as both sides have realistic promotion goals.

Elsewhere, there is cup football taking place in Germany as the DFB Pokal continues as well as top tier matches in both Denmark and Sweden. There is also action coming from France as Sochaux and Paris FC get their campaign under way in Ligue 2.

All bets must be placed by 6pm on Monday.

Racing Post football expert Aaron Ashley has picked:

Nordsjaelland to beat Lyngby

Sochaux to beat Paris FC

Frankfurt to beat Magdeburg

Under 2.5 goals in Watford v Sheffield United

Nordsjaelland v Lyngby

Nordsjaelland have won their opening two games of the Danish season and can make it three wins on the spin at home to Lyngby, who have one point to show from their first two fixtures. Including last season, Nordsjaelland are unbeaten in seven home league games and they were impressive 3-1 victors at Brondby last time out.

Sochaux v Paris FC

These two teams both made the Ligue 2 playoffs last season but Sochaux, who lost only three of their 19 home games, look the more progressive of the pair. The home team were 2-1 winners on their trip to Paris FC in the playoffs in May and can get the new season off to a flyer with three points.

Magdeburg v Frankfurt

Frankfurt showed their class as they were crowned Europa League champions last season and they ought to be a class above Magdeburg in the German Cup. The hosts ply their trade in Germany's second tier following promotion last term and have lost in the opening round of this competition in each of the last four seasons.

Watford v Sheffield United

Both teams are likely to approach this opening game of the season with caution so it could be wise to bank on a low-scoring encounter. Watford are under new management and may take time to hit their straps while Sheffield United, who are often well-organised, again look a little short on firepower.
