Arsenal need a psychological boost | Everton benefiting from Ancelotti tactics

1 Sorting Arsenal's psychological issues should be a priority for Mikel Arteta

Every pundit has their view on what the most pressing issue is at Arsenal but the club snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against Chelsea could provide some insight into the extent of the problems at the Emirates.

Arteta was on course for victory in his first home game in charge of Arsenal only for the Gunners to throw away their 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 in their sixth defeat of the season.

The performance reeked of players lacking confidence and their failure to win any of their five meetings with top-six opponents casts doubts over their psychological strength.

Arresting the slide will take mental and physical firepower from a group of players struggling to win over the fans and that battle should be high up on Arteta's to-do list.

2 Norwich City's inability to hold on to a lead could be costly

Norwich City's Premier League fixtures this season have frequently been labelled games of two halves.

Daniel Farke's men, encouraged to play on the front foot and take the game to the opposition, tend to start strongly and find the net but they can struggle to maintain the intensity and fall apart in the second half.

They are bottom of the table when it comes to points accumulated after taking the lead, winning only three of the eight league contests in which they have gone ahead.

A 2-2 draw with Tottenham would ordinarily look like a good result but the fact that they were pegged back from a leading position twice should concern Farke.

3 Front men could carry Watford to safety

Watford have been in the thick of a relegation battle but a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday strengthened the suspicion that they may be turning a corner.

Nigel Pearson's arrival has brought home wins over Manchester United and Villa either side of a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United but their survival will depend on the playing personnel - and Watford are stronger in one department in particular.

Troy Deeney, sidelined by injury at the start of the season, thrives in testing times and can lead from the front and take the team by the scruff of the neck when the need for points intensifies.

Add to the fully-fit front man the silky skill and moments of magic which Gerard Deulofeu and new addition Ismaila Sarr can offer and the Hornets have an attack far stronger than the 15 goals they have scored this term suggests.

4 Tactical tweaks could pay dividends for Everton

Before Carlo Ancelotti's first match in charge of Everton, the Toffees had not registered 15 shots in any of their previous six games, but in their last two matches against Burnley and Newcastle they have mustered 21 and 22 attempts.

They look to have their attacking mojo back and that is largely down to the tactical system employed by the Italian.

He has chosen teams with two strikers rather than the one deployed in Marco Silva's 4-2-3-1 set-up.

The use of Richarlison and Theo Walcott on the flanks against the Magpies also paid dividends and allowed Everton to attack in numbers and concentrate on slick passing moves rather than the hold-up play of a lone front man.

5 Gillingham could be candidates for Sky Bet League One promotion

The fact that leaders Wycombe were 80-1 outsiders in the ante-post betting tells you all you need to know about Sky Bet League One this term.

Gillingham are also defying expectations and their manager Steve Evans has said fans can start dreaming about promotion.

The Gills won their eighth game of the season with a 1-0 success over Rochdale to move up to 11th in the table, having held Ipswich to a 0-0 draw in their previous match.

They are performing superbly and with an exciting squad including top scorer Alex Jakubiak, they could be worth a punt at 40-1 for promotion.
