Crystal Palace won the first major trophy in their history as they upset the odds to beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Eberechi Eze's first-half goal following a swift counter-attack proved to be the difference but Palace were also indebted to a brilliant penalty stop from goalkeeper Dean Henderson to put the seal on the greatest day in their history.

Palace, who had been 40-1 ante-post, were 11-5 to lift the trophy before Saturday's final and 100-30 to win in normal time with Eze a 12-1 shot to open the scoring and he duly obliged for his backers, connecting with a cross from the player of the match Daniel Munoz.

It was a gallant defensive effort from the Eagles as they spent long periods without the ball and Henderson proved to be an unbeatable last line of defence for Oliver Glasner's outfit, who will now play in next season's Europa League.

Henderson's moment in the sun came when he denied Omar Marmoush from the penalty spot, with a fantastic stop.

It was a surprise to see Erling Haaland, who is six matches without a goal at Wembley, hand the ball over to his fellow forward and those who were on the Norwegian at evens to score will have been extremely frustrated at the decision.

City, 9-2 ante-post outright favourites, were 4-5 to win in 90 minutes and 2-5 to lift the trophy but they let down their backers again.

They are 1-5 to finish in the Premier League's top five and must quickly lift themselves for Tuesday's home clash against Bournemouth, their penultimate game of the season.
