Match previews

Punters can watch the new Women's Super League season on BBC and Sky Sports this season and the opening weekend should set the tone for a pulsating campaign.

Last season's runners-up Man City take on Everton in the headline Saturday fixture and they could be pushed close by the Toffees at Goodison Park.

City won 17 of their 22 games last term and should get the job done but it is worth noting that five of their final seven matches in 2020-21 featured under 3.5 goals.

They have also lost the midfield creativity of Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle this summer and a bet on them to win a game featuring four or fewer goals could be the way to go.

On Sunday champions Chelsea are in action and they can start the season strongly against an improved Arsenal.

Arsenal have drafted in top forwards Nikita Parris and Mana Iwabuchi this summer and are hoping for a fresh start under new boss Jonas Eidevall.

But this Chelsea team made the Champions League final and lost only once in 22 games under Emma Hayes in the Women's Super League last term.

Lauren James and Aniek Nouwen are top signings and their barnstorming attack should get the job done at the Emirates Stadium.
