Expect high scores when 49ers host Giants

Things have not gone to plan for the Giants or the 49ers this season, but they are capable of putting on a decent show when they meet under the lights at Levi’s Stadium.

This will be San Francisco’s second consecutive primetime game at home and head coach Kyle Shanahan will be hoping for a similar performance to their demolition of the hapless Raiders.

That game saw the NFL debut of San Francisco's third-string quarterback Nick Mullens, who had a dream start as he threw for 262 yards and three passing touchdowns.

Having had 11 off since playing that Thursday night game, the 49ers should be well-rested and ready to go on the attack against a Giants team who have shipped at least 20 points in every game this year.

Things are anything but rosy on the blue side of New York as they have a miserable 1-7 record, though that doesn’t tell the whole story for Pat Shurmer’s side.

Five of those defeats have been decided by one score or less and despite some struggles they have shown they have the ability to find the end zone, as they showed when they put up 31 points against Carolina last month.

The Giants have taken on some tough defences recently which gives reason to believe that their offence isn’t as bad as it may look, and any attack featuring Eli Manning, Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham should warrant respect.

The key factor for the Giants lies with the offensive line’s protection of Manning, who has already suffered a league-most 31 sacks this season.

Both teams have shown flashes of strength and while their playoff hopes are all but extinguished they should be able to top what looks a low points line.
