Sunday's European football predictions

Inter's season has taken a sharp turn over the last week, ending their hopes of a treble. A 3-0 loss to Milan on Wednesday knocked them out of the Coppa Italia, while last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Bologna dented their title hopes.

Simone Inzaghi's side have a clash with Barcelona on the horizon but first they meet in-form Roma. The Giallorossi haven’t lost a league game since mid-December, winning eight of their last ten in Serie A. 

Inter have struggled to deal with Italy’s top sides this season, dropping points at home to Napoli, Bologna, Juventus and Milan. Roma can add to that record and continue their unbeaten run.

The weekend’s only La Liga match features a Villarreal side who are chasing a Champions League spot. However, they host an Espanyol side who have scored in every game they’ve played since Christmas. 

Both teams have scored in seven of Villarreal’s last nine at home. The Yellow Submarine have failed to score only once at their own ground this season, but they have managed just three clean sheets.

In Germany, Werder Bremen are making a late push for Europe thanks to a run of four straight wins. They headed into the weekend just four points shy of the Champions League spots, and face14th-place St Pauli next.

St Pauli have lost six of their seven visits to sides in the Bundesliga’s top half. Werder have seven wins from their nine encounters against the bottom six, so they are worth backing to continue their climb up the standings.
