Saturday European football predictions

Harry Kane spent last week celebrating the first trophy of his career as Bayer Leverkusen’s draw with Freiburg earned Bayern Munich the Bundesliga title. 

However, not only was that draw important for the England captain it was crucial for Freiburg, too. It ensured Julian Schuster’s men remained a point ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the race for fourth and they can extend that advantage with victory at Holstein Kiel. 

Their hosts are still battling for survival and will be buoyant after winning two straight games. Those victories came against out-of-form pair Augsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, though, and they may not fare so well against Freiburg, who excel on their travels. 

Schuster’s side are unbeaten in six away games, winning the previous three before their draw with Leverkusen, and should have too much for Kiel, who have shipped a league-high 75 goals. 

Girona snapped an 11-game winless streak by narrowly beating Mallorca 1-0 on Monday but they may revert to losing ways against Villarreal, who are aiming to hold on to a top-five place which would secure them Champions League football. 

The Yellow Submarine have won four of their last six away games and they should have too much for Girona, who are still just six points clear of the relegation zone as their mass exodus in the summer clearly took its toll. 

However, just two of Villarreal's last 12 matches featured more than three goals, so while an away win seems likely, it may not be a resounding one in Catalonia.
