Charleroi have recovered well from their sloppy start to the season and can leapfrog sixth-placed Gent with a seventh straight home league success.

The Zebras, third in the regular season 12 months ago, kicked off this campaign with just two wins from their opening eight games.

But Felice Mazzu’s men have improved significantly since and their dominance on their own patch has put them back in the playoff reckoning.

Champions Club Brugge, currently in third, and fifth-placed Sint-Truiden are among Charleroi’s recent victims and they should keep their winning habit going against a Gent side troubled on their travels.

The visitors are classy on their day but a record of just three wins from eight away games highlights their inconsistencies.

Jess Thorup’s side have recorded only one of those victories since early September, and their latest effort was a laboured 2-2 draw at basement boys Lokeren, who have just 11 points to their name.

They have also faced three top-half sides on the road but have just one point to show for it and may come up short once again.

However, for all their struggles Gent do pack a potent frontline. They have failed to score just once on their travels, netting two or more on six occasions, and can grab a consolation against Charleroi, who have conceded in each of their last six outings.
