Milan vs Bologna predictions

The Stadio Olimpico will form the backdrop for the Coppa Italia final between Milan and Bologna and the match comes just five days after their Serie A showdown at the San Siro which the Rossoneri won 3-1.

Both teams were in the Champions League this season but a top-four finish looks a tall order this time so winning is of even greater importance as it would at least send them into the Europa League.

Milan have not tasted Coppa Italia glory since 2003, when they were led by Carlo Ancelotti, but they can end the 22-year wait by beating Bologna for the second time in a week.

Sergio Conceicao’s side began their run to the final with a 6-1 rout of Serie B champions Sassuolo before outclassing Roma 3-1 in the last eight.

Their semi-final win over fierce rivals Inter last month sent out a statement as they won the second leg 3-0 to claim a 4-1 aggregate success.

Bologna beat Atalanta in their quarter-final but a semi-final showdown with second-bottom Empoli was far more routine and their form has slumped in Serie A.

Vincenzo Italiano’s men have won only one of their last six league games to leave them two points behind fourth-placed Juventus with only two league fixtures to go.

Milan have triumphed in five of their last six games in all competitions and may have more big-game players than Bologna, suggesting that they could settle into the occasion better.

Bologna have struggled away at Serie A’s top sides this season, with their only win from seven matches on the road against their fellow top-eight outfits coming at a Roma side who were in turmoil at the time of that November fixture.
