Abelardo made a flying start to his career at Alaves but there may not be as much to shout about on his home debut when Las Palmas visit Vitoria.

Alaves, 2-0 down and looking in desperate trouble at Girona, recovered in spectacular fashion with Ibai Gomez scoring a hat-trick in the final 19 minutes.

However, that was only one of three La Liga victories this season and they appear to be a risky proposition as favourites even though Abelardo praised their character for the win at Girona.

Las Palmas, one point and one place above Alaves in the standings, have the worst goal difference in La Liga at minus 21 which does not bode well for their chances, but their recent performances have been good.

The Islanders drew 2-2 at Sociedad when they forced seven shots on target, and lost a close game 3-2 against Deportivo.

Last week's 1-0 win over Real Betis was fully deserved and their unlikely front two double act of Loic Remy and Jonathan Calleri could yet shoot Las Palmas out of relegation trouble.
