Weekend preview
Parma v Juventus
Premier Sports 1, 7.45pm Saturday
Juventus have won only half of their 12 Serie A matches this season and one of those was off the pitch when they were controversially awarded a 3-0 success over Napoli as the opponents failed to travel following a coronavirus scare.
Novice boss Andrea Pirlo still has much to prove and they dropped more points in a 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Wednesday. Their only away successes have come at Spezia and Genoa which suggests Juve could find things tricky on the road at Parma.
Winning may prove beyond the hosts, yet Parma have lost only one of their last eight games and they can stay close on the handicap.
Parma clearly carry an attacking threat with 2-2 draws away to Milan and Inter, and Pirlo has not managed to find the right balance for Juve.
The pairing of Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata has looked their best option, although that means no spot for Paulo Dybala and there is also a lack of creativity in midfield.
Sassuolo v Milan
Premier Sports 2, 2pm Sunday
Serie A leaders Milan are beginning to feel the pinch at the summit and could drop more points at Sassuolo.
Milan have been magnificent in all competitions since the lockdown in March, losing just once in all competitions, and they are unbeaten domestically, but the defence is putting the attack under pressure with one clean sheet in nine in Serie A.
Stefano Pioli admits they are "conceding too many goals" following a 2-2 draw at Genoa which came just three days after they recorded same scoreline at home to Parma. The boss is also concerned by the injuries piling up and he will be desperate for Ismael Bennacer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Simon Kjaer to return for this difficult road encounter.
Sassuolo's expected goal figures are not as impressive as their actual results and some regression can be expected soon.
However, that is factored into the prices. They have lost just once this season - against Inter - and won 2-0 at Napoli and drew 0-0 at Roma.
Fiorentina v Verona
Premier Sports 2, 2pm Saturday
The expected-goals (xG) ratings help to explain why there is so much love for Fiorentina at home to a Verona side, who also have injury problems.
However, Fiorentina have won just twice all season and the last of those came on October 25.
The return of manager Cesare Prandelli has not managed to bring about an improvement in terms of results and he will be hoping experienced star Franck Ribery can sprinkle some stardust otherwise an unforeseen relegation fight could be on the cards.
Verona got a leg up the table after being handed a 3-0 win over Roma but they have also drawn away to Juventus and Milan this season as well as winning at Atalanta and Lazio.
Three of those teams are in the last 16 of the Champions League, which highlights just how impressive their coach Ivan Juric, a disciple of Atalanta's Gian Piero Gasperini, has been in turning Verona into a side capable of finishing in Serie A's top half.
