Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions

Tottenham have put all of their eggs into the Europa League basket and they can stay on course for a cracking finish to the campaign by defeating Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

Ange Postecoglou's side have suffered 16 Premier League defeats, which is already the club's highest number since the 2003-04 campaign.

They were unconvincing 3-2 aggregate winners against AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16 and need to be ready to step things up against Frankfurt, who are third in the Bundesliga and striving to win the Europa League for the second time in four seasons.

Frankfurt approach the final six games of the Bundesliga with a good chance of securing Champions League qualification but their performances have noticeably tailed off since Omar Marmoush was sold to Manchester City in January.

Marmoush featured for the first half of the league campaign and contributed 15 goals and nine assists.

In the 17 Bundesliga games with Marmoush on board Frankfurt registered 33 points at an average of 1.94 per game and 40 goals, averaging at 2.35.

In the 11 matches that followed his departure their points and goals averages have each dropped to 1.36 and that has been despite the significant impact of French attacker Hugo Ekitike, who has bagged 13 goals.

Spurs need to keep a close eye on Ekitike, but they are in reasonable shape at the back with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven seemingly fully recovered from injury and ready to play a key role in the matches to come.

Tottenham have gained a reputation for playing risky, swashbuckling football, but they look ready to adopt a more pragmatic approach against Frankfurt and it can pay off with a first-leg success.

Tottenham to win
Tottenham have saved some of their better performances for the Europa League and can register their seventh win of the competition.

Heung-Min Son to score or assist
The 32-year-old's powers are waning but he remains an important player for Spurs and could play a match-winning role.

Rodrigo Bentancur to be carded
Cautions are a regular hazard for Bentancur, who has already served one Europa League suspension and is Tottenham's most carded player in the Premier League.
