Tottenham vs Bodo/Glimt predictions

The betting would have you believe Tottenham already have one foot in the Europa League final, but very little has gone to plan for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season and Bodo/Glimt have the firepower to give them a sweat.

Spurs are 2-9 to come through this two-legged semi-final with Bodo/Glimt, who are the first Norwegian team to have made the final four of a major European competition.

However, Tottenham have endured a season of despair – they find themselves 16th in the Premier League standings with only four games to go – and reports suggest that Postecoglou is set to depart at the end of their campaign regardless of their Europa League destiny.

That lingering doubt can’t be helpful and they were comfortably picked off in a 5-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with the Reds having 25 shots on their way to claiming the title.

It means Spurs have kept only two clean sheets in their last 16 matches in all competitions. With 56 goals conceded in the league, only Wolves, West Ham and the relegated trio have been breached more in 34 games.

The north Londoners undoubtedly have the attacking talent to hurt the Norwegian minnows, even if Heung-min Son isn’t fit to feature, and their only blank in 12 European games came in a 1-0 loss at AZ Alkmaar.

The plus for Postecoglou’s side is that they produced one of their most complete performances of the season in their 1-0 success at Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of their quarter-final and may have been holding something in reserve for this.

Tottenham are unbeaten in six home games in the Europa League this term, but they have conceded in three of those last four assignments against Roma, AZ and Frankfurt.

Just two clean sheets in their last 32 Premier League home games paints a picture and Glimt, having scored in 12 of their 14 Europa League outings this season, can play their part in an entertaining encounter.

The visitors do have some key men missing in midfield without suspended pair Patrick Berg and Hakon Evjen but they have a serious scoring threat in Kasper Hogh, who is the joint leading scorer in the competition with seven goals.

Glimt upset Lazio in their quarter-final and they have already played Premier League opponents in this competition, pushing Manchester United hard in a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford in November.

Only four games into their domestic season, freshness could also have its advantages for Glimt, who have racked up 30 goals in 14 European matches, and they can ensure both-teams-to-score backers are rewarded.

But after making eight changes at Anfield on Sunday, Tottenham should be feeling prepared while Glimt are weakened, so the Premier League team should get their heads in front.
