Once in a while a special talent bursts on to the scene who immediately commands the attention of everybody, and 21-year-old Jon Rahm has quickly got the eyes of the golfing world upon him.
The Spaniard, built like a bull but with the touch of an angel, was a college star in Arizona and world number one amateur before turning professional at the end of June. As an amateur he finished fifth in the Phoenix Open, tenth in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and 23rd in the US Open.
The Quicken Loans National was his first pro start and he opened up with a 64, threatening to claim a US Tour victory straight from the gate. Rahm finished third there, then was at it again last time out, beaten by only a shot in the Canadian Open. His eagle putt at the 72nd hole narrowly missed, a cheque for $440,533 the consolation prize.
