Ryan Palmer and Wesley Bryan, 90-1 and 125-1 respectively ante-post for the Honda Classic, are joint-leaders at the halfway stage.

The American duo have reached nine under par through 36 holes at PGA National, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Neither are favourite going into the final two rounds, though, as Rickie Fowler is lurking over their shoulders.

Fowler is one shot behind, alone in third spot, and no bigger than
11-4 to win the Honda for the first time. The former world number four has opened with a pair of 66s, which is exactly what he did in this event 12 months ago, before carding a hugely disappointing third-round 74.

Last year Fowler arrived at the Honda after a crushing playoff defeat to Hideki Matsuyama in the Phoenix Open, so losing his way over the weekend at PGA National was understandable. It is much more likely the Florida-based star, fresh and confident, will kick on over the final two rounds this time.

Bryan, an 8-1 chance, is arguably the most dangerous of the leading duo. He earned a Web.com Tour card at this venue 14 months ago in the Q-School for that circuit and it is a US Tour track he knows better than most. That course comfort has shown over the first two days and Bryan could be Fowler's chief challenger.

Bryan, a three-time champion on the Web.com Tour last year, finished fourth in the Genesis Open last week. Palmer had been badly struggling with his putting this year. His performance on the greens has greatly improved this week with a new putter in his bag, but it remains to be seen whether that form will sustain for 72 holes.

Third-round twoball punters are pointed towards Bryan, 5-4 outsider for his 6.50pm (UK and Ireland time) match against Palmer. The fast improving 26-year-old should be favourite at a layout he loves.
