Celtic's William Hill Scottish Premiership hopes were dented at the weekend by a 2-1 loss at home to Hearts and they will be aiming for a response when they face Roma in a high-profile Europa League contest at Celtic Park.

The Bhoys have had mixed fortunes in the Europa League with two wins, one draw and two defeats and they are two points worse off than Roma, who are targeting a third successive European victory.

Celtic vs Roma preview

Wilfried Nancy began his spell as Celtic manager with a 2-1 loss at home to Hearts and further disappointment may be on the cards when the Frenchman's side host Roma on Europa League matchday six.

Celtic took their time before securing Nancy as the long-term successor to Brendan Rodgers, but there are already some suggestions that they might have been wiser to hold off a little longer.

The Bhoys had made steady progress under Interim manager Martin O'Neill, who won seven of eight games, including a 3-1 extra-time triumph over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals and a 3-1 Europa League triumph away to Feyenoord.

But Nancy was installed in the week leading up to a key league match at home to Hearts and the decision backfired as Celtic failed to maintain their recent resurgence.

Nancy has a firm belief in his methods, including a preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, and he wasted no time in asking the players to adapt to his way of doing things.

However, there were teething problems at the weekend and they were ruthlessly exploited by Hearts, who had approached the game on a four-game winless run.

Celtic struggled to get to grips with Hearts and they face a more demanding test against Roma, who are among the strongest teams in the Europa League draw.

Roma have slipped to fourth in Serie A after 1-0 losses at home to Napoli and away to Cagliari, but they are on the comeback trail in the Europa League following November wins away to Rangers and at home to Midtjylland.

Gian Gasperini's side are far from free-scoring but they have won 12 of 19 games and are sufficiently talented and organised to inflict Celtic's second loss in five days.

Combative Callum could be carded

Celtic's switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation demanded plenty of adaptation from the players, including midfield duo Arne Engels and Callum McGregor, who are getting used to covering a lot of ground.

McGregor has been carded four times in his last eight appearances and he looks overpriced to collect another caution.

Celtic vs Roma Bet Builder

Lorenzo Pellegrini to score at any time

Pellegrini started the scoring in last month's 2-0 success away to Rangers and he can find the net against Celtic.

Gianluca Mancini to commit over 1.5 fouls

Mancini is among the most combative defenders in Serie A and looks a solid selection to commit multiple fouls.

Under 3.5 goals

Roma's matches are generally tight affairs and there is every chance of a low-scoring outcome at Celtic Park.
