Cauley can climb Byron Nelson leaderboard
Johnson opened up with a 67
Second round
Sky Sports 4, 9pm Friday
Dustin Johnson has shortened to 12-5 from 9-2 to win the AT&T Byron Nelson following an opening 67 but the world number one will have to repel a number of classy contenders who are towards the top of the leaderboard after round one.
James Hahn and Ricky Barnes each carded a six-under 64 to share the lead but Matt Kuchar, Johnson and last year's runner-up Brooks Koepka are all within three shots of the front two.
Jordan Spieth, so often an also-ran in his home tournament, is in a decent position after a two-under 68 and has been clipped to 10-1 from 13-1.
Another classy operator who is in pursuit of the leaders is PGA Tour maiden Bud Cauley.
Cauley travelled to Las Colinas after consecutive top-ten finishes at the Heritage, the Texas Open and the Zurich Classic, so he is one of the most in-form golfers on the US circuit.
The 27-year-old opened up with a 67, following up the top-five finish he registered in this tournament last season.
He tees off alongside the talented but inconsistent Sung Kang and the woefully out-of-form Steve Wheatcroft and should be backed to do best of the three.
