Italian Open favourite Martin Kaymer is joined by Ryder Cup colleagues Danny Willett and Matthew Fitzpatrick for the opening round at Golf Club Milano this afternoon.

Kaymer, a 12-1 chance for outright glory, was handed a wildcard place by Darren Clarke for the match against the United States later this month. Masters champion Willett and Nordea Masters victor Fitzpatrick quali­fied automatically for the team.

The 12.40pm (UK and Ireland time) threeball should be a high-quality and competitive affair, with Kaymer, Willett and Fitzpatrick all proven on this course. The German was a playoff loser last year, while the English duo tied for third place.
