Match preview

Set to host the 2022 Women's Euros later this summer, England Women will step up their preparations this week with participation in the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup.

The round-robin tournament will pit the Lionesses against three teams inside the top ten of Fifa's world rankings - Canada, Spain and Germany - and has been described by boss Sarina Wiegman as the ideal way to prepare for an important year.

First up for England on Thursday are reigning Olympic champions Canada, who should provide a stern test after holding Great Britain to a 1-1 draw in Tokyo last year.

But England have looked sharp under Wiegman, winning all six of their World Cup qualifiers, scoring an eye-watering 53 goals and conceding none in the process.

Playing at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, they will have home advantage on their side and should get the job done but they are not expected to rack up the goals against the Canadians.

On their way to their gold medal last year, Canada conceded only four goals in six matches and this could be a tight one.

Back England to prevail in a match featuring three or fewer goals.
