England are 6-1 from 10-1 with Coral to host the 2022 World Cup after former Uefa chief Michel Platini was questioned by French anti-corruption officers about the award of the tournament to Qatar in 2010.

The Middle East state is evens to lose the showpiece as Platini, who has been banned from any involvement in football for four years, was detained in Paris as part of the investigation that has been going on for two years.

Platini supported Qatar in the vote in which the USA, Australia, South Korea and Japan were defeated but he was banned after receiving a 'disloyal payment' of £1.3m from ex-Fifa president Sepp Blatter in 2011.

His ban is due to end in October after it was reduced from its original eight years to four and the three-time Ballon d'Or winner has always denied any wrongdoing.

The tournament is scheduled to start on November 21, 2022 with the final being held a week before Christmas.
