Last season it was Mohamed Salah who was terrorising defences but this season it is Emiliano Sala who can't stop scoring.

Sala has had a remarkable campaign for Nantes, particularly as he failed to start two of the first three matches under coach Miguel Cardoso, who was sacked and replaced by club legend Vahid Halilhodzic on October 2.

Veteran coach Halilhodzic knows a thing or two about scoring - he was twice Ligue 1's top goalscorer in the 1980s as he shot Nantes to title glory - and Sala has sizzled under the 66-year-old, scoring 11 times in just 757 minutes.

Seven of those goals have come in Sala's last four appearances, taking him to ten in the league, one behind Kylian Mbappe, who is the most lethal striker in Europe's elite championships.

Sala's hat-trick against Toulouse was the first three-goal haul in Ligue 1 by a Nantes player since 2006 and, quite remarkably, he is the highest-scoring Argentinian in top European league football.

That's not bad considering Sala is up against Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala.
