Wrexham vs West Brom preview

Wrexham are very quickly getting a handle on what a tough school the Championship is and a third lesson is incoming from the visit of West Brom.

Last week they were deservedly beaten 2-1 at Southampton, moaning long into the night of the lateness of Saints' fightback while forgetting they were second-best for most of the game.

Then a reshuffled side struggled against another Championship side, Hull, in the EFL Cup before providing a late fightback of their own to snatch a draw.

Phil Parkinson has a big group of players to pick from and that's a bonus as they prepare for their next test against West Brom.

The Baggies were obduracy itself last season, drawing far too many games - 19 in total - which cost them a shot at the playoffs and Tony Mowbray his job.

Ryan Mason would hope to make the Throstles edgier and last week against Blackburn was certainly more uplifting, for the first hour or so at least. They won 1-0 with six shots on target, more than their 3.9 average at home last season.

They then reverted to type in the EFL Cup by drawing against Derby, though while Wrexham won their shootout against Hull, the Baggies blew theirs.

West Brom are hard-bitten at this level and Mason's team are going to be hard to beat again.

Wrexham will huff and puff and be able to draw on decent impact resources off the bench, but if this ended all-square it would surprise few.

Styles to strike the right note

Southampton tore Wrexham apart down the Welsh side's right side at St Mary's last weekend and West Brom will hope for more joy on that flank.

Callum Styles scored three times for Mowbray's team last term and the left-back is already showing his positivity under Mason with two shots in each outing against Blackburn and Derby. Back him to get one on target at the Racecourse.

Yet another 1-1 on the cards?

West Brom’s 1-1 draw at home to Derby in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night won't have raised any eyebrows around The Hawthorns.

They managed ten 1-1 scorelines last term and may find an old habit hard to break across the border this weekend.

Danny Ward 3+ saves

Wrexham's Danny Ward made seven saves at Southampton and his stand-in Arthur Okonkwo another three against Hull on Tuesday. It could be that sort of season for the Championship newcomers.

Over 9.5 corners

There have been 11 and ten corners in Wrexham's two games to date, and ten in each of West Brom's matches during the first week of term.

West Brom or draw double chance

Another test for Wrexham against a top Championship side and while there will be real positivity around the Racecourse for this biggest of days, Mason's men can steal their thunder.

Price guide 4-1
