Match preview

Blackburn have alternated between wins and losses for the last seven weeks but they can snap the cycle by beating Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Despite their inconsistencies Rovers are seventh and need a victory over Wigan to take them level with the Championship's top three - Sheffield United, Norwich and QPR.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's side have found life tougher on their travels – losing four of six away games – but they make the short trip to Wigan in high spirits after Saturday's 3-0 success at home to Rotherham.

Rovers' attack had a nice balance at the weekend, when Sam Gallagher made only his second start since August and provided valuable support to top scorer Ben Brereton Diaz.

The duo were a handful for the Millers, and there were flashes of brilliance from attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics, who contributed a goal and an assist.

Blackburn look lively in attack and have improved at the back, conceding just four goals in their last five matches.

Tomasson's side have the ingredients do better on their travels and have a great opportunity against Wigan, who are the only second-tier side without a home victory.

Wigan lost 3-1 at home to Cardiff on Saturday to leave them with just three points from a possible 18 at the DW Stadium.

The Latics' away record – four wins from six games – has kept their heads above water, but there has been a lack of urgency and belief in their home performances and that trend may continue.

Key stat

Wigan have not won any of their last eight home fixtures.
