Shrewd recruits can give Rovers a hefty lift
Steve Davies gives order to the clubs in League One
1 Blackburn
Despite being debt-ridden and in a sharp decline, there are genuine grounds for optimism at Ewood Park. Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has got the nucleus of a squad that finished last season with just three defeats in 15 matches and has added some impressive names, including Bradley Dack and Peter Whittingham.
2 MK Dons
Under Robbie Neilson, the Dons were much improved. The Scot has overhauled the squad, bringing in his players, and they can only improve again. Ryan Seager adds to the goal threat and Chuks Aneke needs to start more than the nine games he did last term but the blend of experience and youth looks really promising.
3 Wigan
Paul Cook left Portsmouth for this, which makes you ask what did he see? Their fourth manager since October, Cook has made one or two decent additions, but didn’t stop skipper Stephen Warnock leaving. His biggest challenge will be keeping Nick Powell fit while hoping Will Grigg catches fire up front.
