Leyton Orient vs Stockport predictions

Leyton Orient and Stockport excelled during the League One run-in and could be tough to separate in the first leg of their playoff  semi-final at Brisbane Road.

Being in the tick of a promotion battle has become the norm for Stockport, who are aiming to go up for the fourth time in seven seasons.

The Hatters were a National League North side as recently as 2019 but have been on an amazing journey and are approaching their trip to the capital in high spirits having won seven of their last eight matches.

County finished third on 87 points and are odds-on favourites to reach Wembley at the expense of Orient, who sealed their extended season only last Saturday with a 4-1 triumph at Huddersfield.

However, the markets may have been a little too dismissive of Orient, who reached the top six despite some sticky spells including a run of four successive defeats at the beginning of the season and five losses in a row in February and March.

Orient were affected by injuries and a loss of confidence during the second of those losing streaks but they responded superbly and are arriving at the playoffs on a six-game winning sequence.

Charismatic Orient manager Richie Wellens has seen his players rise to the challenge in recent weeks when a single slip-up might have allowed Reading to edge ahead of them in the top six race.

The Londoners should be battle-hardened for the challenges to come and can compete on even terms with Stockport, starting with a hard-fought draw on home soil.
