Leyton Orient vs Charlton predictions

Wembley hosts an all-London League One playoff final on Sunday and fans of both Leyton Orient and Charlton should be feeling confident as they make their way to the national stadium.

Nathan Jones's Charlton finished seven points ahead of Orient in the regular season and progressed 1-0 on aggregate from a scrappy semi-final tie against Wycombe.

The O's sealed sixth place in the table after winning their last six matches, including a 1-0 home victory over Wycombe and a 4-1 success at Huddersfield on the final day.

They needed a late penalty to claim a 2-2 draw with Stockport in the home leg of their playoff semi-final before progressing 4-1 in a penalty shootout after the return leg had ended 1-1.

Charlton are clear favourites to win promotion to the Championship but Orient make more appeal at the prices.

The Addicks did the double over the east Londoners during the regular season but both matches were tight affairs.

Luke Berry scored the only goal of the game in the 92nd minute at The Valley in August and Charlton struck twice in injury-time to pinch a 2-1 victory at Brisbane Road on March 1.

Both of their goals came from corners so O's boss Richie Wellens will be well aware of the aerial threat posed by Charlton at set-piece situations.

However, the manner in which Orient finished the regular season, coupled with their semi-final win over a strong Stockport side, suggests they could upset the Addicks in the final.

They had to dig deep in the away leg against Stockport, in which they led for more than 70 minutes before a brilliant Isaac Olaofe equaliser took the tie to extra-time.

The draw in 90 minutes is a big runner at Wembley and Wellens knows his players can handle the pressure of extra-time and penalties.

Orient won shootouts against Colchester in the EFL Trophy and Boreham Wood and Derby in the FA Cup this season and Wellens described goalkeeper Josh Keeley as "one of the best I've ever seen at penalties".

Charlton's excellent home record has played a big part in their success this term. Only two of their 11 defeats came at The Valley, where top scorer Matty Godden's 81st-minute goal gave them a decisive 1-0 second-leg win over Wycombe.

They have to be respected after an excellent campaign but, on neutral territory, they look too short a price to dash Orient's promotion dream.
