Wrexham vs Charlton predictions

The battle for second place in League One has been hotly contested and Charlton can ensure it goes to the final weekend by defeating Wrexham in north Wales.

Birmingham have been the third tier's outstanding team but the other automatic promotion berth remains up for grabs with Wrexham, Wycombe, Charlton and Stockport in contention with two games left to play.

For several weeks Wrexham and Wycombe appeared to be involved in a head-to-head battle but they are being forced to recognise the determined challenges of Charlton and Stockport, who are both finishing with a flourish.

Wrexham are available at 4-11 for a top-two finish, Wycombe can be backed at 3-1, with Charlton, who have won 15 of their last 20 games, at 16-1 and Stockport 33-1.

Until recently Charlton had been focusing on making sure of a top-six finish, but their run-in presented a couple of big opportunities to claw back at the deficit on those above them and the fourth-placed Addicks took the first of them in fine style with Monday's 4-0 victory away to Wycombe.

Nathan Jones's side were up against a Wycombe team who were three wins away from guaranteeing automatic promotion but they delivered a nerveless, clinical performance which drew them to within two points of their hosts and maintained the gap to Wrexham to just four points.

Wrexham took advantage of Wycombe's loss and moved up to second with an impressive 2-1 victory away to Blackpool. But some of their recent home performances have been less convincing, including a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers.

The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will go up with a win if Wycombe lose at Leyton Orient, hence the TV cameras heading to the Racecourse Ground, but relentless Charlton may yet tear up the script and there could be more plot twists to come in the League One promotion race.
