Huddersfield vs Bolton preview
Huddersfield have taken a few hits in recent weeks but they can return to the top six by defeating Bolton in a clash between the underperforming League One heavyweights.
High expectations are part of the third-tier landscape for the Terriers and the Trotters, who see the Championship as their natural environment.
Both feel that they should contend for a top-two finish, yet they are falling short of expectations with Huddersfield in seventh place and Bolton two points worse off in eighth, having played one game more.
Huddersfield went into the season with the intention of turning their stadium into a fortress and made early headway by winning their opening four home league games.
However, the run came to an end with a 0-0 draw at home to Burton and there was further disappointment on the eve of the international break when Lee Grant's side were beaten 2-1 by Stockport.
There were boos from the stands after the Stockport result which was especially disappointing because Huddersfield had played with an extra man after the 53rd-minute dismissal of opposing defender Tyler Onyango.
And the supporters' intense disappointment was mirrored by the players, who, according to Grant, were 'low and angry' after the final whistle.
Huddersfield's recent form is a concern but their home record (13 points from six games) remains strong and they have a good chance to bounce back against Bolton, who are going through an even stickier spell.
The Trotters have performed well on a lot of metrics and are second in terms of average possession (59.9 per cent) and top on the shot count (206), but they remain winless on their travels and could take no positives from Saturday's 3-0 loss at Burton which was their poorest performance of the campaign.
Steven Schumacher switched to a 4-4-2 formation for the trip to Burton and asked his players to get the ball forward a little bit quicker, but the tactic backfired against a more-organised Brewers side, who were superior in both boxes.
A return to a three-man midfield seems likely with Alan Sheehan, available after Welsh international duty, among the candidates to come back into the team.
But Bolton are heading to West Yorkshire with only three away points on the board and they may be forced to endure another fruitless road trip.
Harness heading for a suspension
Harness is on the brink of a suspension after picking up four yellow cards in ten league appearances. The 29-year-old enjoys the physical side of the game and may struggle to avoid another caution.
Refreshed Terriers can secure the spoils
Huddersfield have taken just one point from their last two home fixtures but they should fancy their chances of responding against Bolton, who haven't registered an away victory since April. Lee Grant's side have had a chance to refresh mentally and physically and their extra preparation time gives them the edge over Bolton, who might not have got the loss to Burton out of their system.
Huddersfield vs Bolton Bet Builder
Alfie May to score at any time
The livewire striker has registered 11 shots on target in 11 league games and should pose the main threat to a suspect Bolton defence.
Ben Wiles to score or assist
Wiles was a key player last term, delivering eight league goals and five assists. He is among the division's top talents and can trouble the Trotters.
Over two goals
Both teams are in need of a victory and their mutual desire for three points can contribute to a high-scoring outcome.
