Dan Childs's EFL predictions

Plymouth vs Huddersfield predictions

Plymouth have gone from League One relegation candidates to promotion chasers since the turn of the year and their push towards the top six can continue with a victory over Huddersfield at Home Park.

The battle to get into the playoffs is wide open and just five points cover the teams between fifth and 11th.

Tenth-placed Plymouth and seventh-placed Huddersfield are among the teams in contention and both approach the weekend knowing a win could lift them into a top-six position.

Of all the teams battling to extend their season, Plymouth are playing with the greatest confidence.

Argyle started the league season with four straight losses and were in the relegation positions less than three months ago.

However, they have averaged two points per game in 2026 and took another huge step forward on Tuesday by winning 1-0 at home to playoff rivals Stevenage.

While Plymouth are on a roll, Huddersfield are struggling at the worst possible time.

The Terriers opted for a change of manager in January, replacing Lee Grant with Liam Manning, but there has been no noticeable improvement in performances or results.

Manning's men have won just two of their last nine fixtures and they face a tough trip to Plymouth, who look a solid bet to register an 18th league win of the season.

Charlton vs Norwich predictions

Charlton have been edging closer to Championship safety and they can break the 50-point barrier with a win over Norwich.

Consolidation was always the aim for the Addicks, who were 1-0 winners against Leyton Orient in last season's League One playoff final.

And it is a case of mission almost accomplished for Nathan Jones's side, who are nine points above the relegation places with eight games left to play.

Charlton have registered eight of their 12 league wins on home soil and they have a decent opportunity against Norwich, who were beaten 1-0 at Southampton on Wednesday.

Norwich competed well against Southampton but they lacked a cutting edge and that is entirely understandable because they were weakened by the absence of key forwards Jovon Makama and Mohamed Toure.

The Canaries have being doing well despite their extensive injury list, but they have lost three of their last five away fixtures and could be vanquished at the Valley.

AFC Wimbledon vs Peterborough predictions

AFC Wimbledon are firmly on course for League One survival and they can move on to 52 points by defeating Peterborough in a battle between mid-table sides.

Back-to-back losses have put an end to the Wombles' slim playoff hopes but it has been a decent season for the south London side, who have adjusted nicely to life at a higher level.

Johnnie Jackson's outfit have registered eight home league wins and they might have too much physicality for injury-hit Peterborough, who are leaning heavily on their younger players.

Youthful Posh showed their quality with Tuesday's 5-0 victory at home to Rotherham, but they have been beaten on three of their last four road trips and could struggle this weekend.

Gillingham vs Bristol Rovers predictions

Bristol Rovers have been striding towards League Two safety and can remove any lingering doubts after Saturday's trip to Gillingham.

The Pirates have  won three of their last four matches and have a wonderful opportunity against the Gills, who have lost their last three games, scoring one goal and conceding 12.
