Cheltenham's form has picked up since Steve Cotterill returned for a second spell as manager and the Robins face Notts County in Monday's televised League Two fixture at Whaddon Road.

Martin Paterson's Magpies lost to AFC Wimbledon in last season's playoff semi-final and, like Cheltenham, they have won three and drawn one of their last four league matches.

Cheltenham vs Notts County preview

Cheltenham's shocking start to the League Two season reached its nadir with September's 7-1 defeat at Grimsby but the return of club legend Steve Cotterill means Robins fans are partying like it's 1999.

Cotterill's first spell in charge, between 1997 and 2002, saw Cheltenham rise from the Southern League to League One.

His first four league matches after succeeding Michael Flynn have produced victories to nil over Fleetwood, Newport County and leaders Walsall as well as a 1-1 draw away to Gillingham.

A penalty-shootout win over Tottenham Under-21s and a 1-0 FA Cup success against third-tier Bradford raised morale further but the betting for Monday's match against Notts County is a reality check for Cheltenham.

Despite taking ten points from their last four games, the Robins are 22nd in the standings and priced up at around 3-1 to beat Martin Paterson's Magpies.

Notts County, beaten by AFC Wimbledon in last term's playoff semi-finals, will move into the automatic-promotion places if they win at Whaddon Road.

Only two of their seven league victories have come away from home and their last road trip ended in an FA Cup defeat on penalties at National League Brackley.

Cheltenham rode their luck in their last home fixture as Walsall missed several good chances before an injury-time own goal from Aden Flint gave Cotterill's men a 1-0 win.

But the new-manager bounce may dissuade punters from backing County at a shade of odds-on and Cheltenham's Isaac Hutchinson is a more appealing bet to score at any time.

Hutchinson started the season at Bristol Rovers, scoring against Chesterfield in the league and Tottenham's youngsters in the EFL Trophy.

He marked his Cheltenham debut with a brilliant second-minute free-kick against Accrington and has scored in three of his last six games, racking up 22 shots in eight league starts for the Robins.

Half-time draw

Six of Notts County's last eight League Two matches were level at half-time and eight of Cheltenham's 14 league games were goalless at the break.

Under 3.5 goals

Notts County have struggled for goals on the road and are unlikely to cut loose on Monday as six of Cheltenham's seven matches under Steve Cotterill had under 2.5 goals.

Alassana Jatta to score at any time

The biggest goal threat on either team is Magpies striker Jatta, who scored a terrific brace in his last league game against Cambridge before a 13th-minute opener at Brackley in the FA Cup.
