The Championship season has entered the final furlong and both West Brom and Millwall are in need of points for entirely different reasons.

The Baggies have endured a bitterly disappointing season and have only a four-point buffer to the bottom three, whereas fourth-placed Millwall are one of three clubs locked on 72 points in the race for a top-two finish and automatic promotion.

West Brom vs Millwall preview

Millwall have lost back-to-back games only once this season and the Lions will be seeking another immediate response when they head to the Hawthorns on Friday night.

Alex Neil's Londoners lost 2-1 at home to Norwich on Easter Monday but automatic promotion remains a possibility for Millwall, who have the same number of points as second-placed Ipswich but have played two games more.

They will need to put a run together and hope for a few slip-ups from the Tractor Boys, who have five away games left including this weekend's local derby at Norwich and a tough trip to Southampton. But the Lions can only take care of their own business.

While Millwall are eyeing a place in the Premier League, West Brom are fighting to remain a Championship outfit.

Albion have improved under interim head coach James Morrison and have gone six games unbeaten for the first time this season. However, Easter draws at home to Wrexham and Blackburn were missed opportunities for the Baggies, who have only a four-point buffer over the bottom three.

One more victory might be enough for Albion to keep their heads above water and a final-day trip to relegated Sheffield Wednesday is a handy insurance policy.

Morrison will want to have safety assured before heading to Hillsborough but, despite their recent improvement, Albion are hard to fancy against one of the most resilient and streetwise teams in the division.

Millwall are a club who have traditionally relied on their home form, but they have taken 16 points from their last six road trips, including four from trips to top-two rivals Ipswich (1-1) and Middlesbrough (2-1), and at 13-10 they look overpriced in the draw-no-bet market.
