West Brom vs Leicester preview

Ante-post markets believed Leicester had the biggest challenge this season of the three clubs relegated from the Premier League.

The Foxes had to deal with a host of summer departures and found replacements frustratingly hard to come by. However, new manager Marti Cifuentes, who joined the club from QPR, has shown his capabilities and the Spaniard's side can move up to second in the Championship ahead of Saturday’s fixtures with victory at West Brom.

The Baggies have also made a promising start to life under a new man in charge, but successive league defeats to Derby and Middlesbrough have stalled their early progress under Ryan Mason.

A lack of firepower is a concern for both clubs and could hinder their ambitions for promotion – West Brom have scored just seven goals in six league games and Leicester only one more. However, the Foxes boast a solid defensive spine which has helped keep three clean sheets in their last four Championship outings.

Leicester restricted fellow highflyers Coventry to only three shots on target in a goalless draw last time out while Birmingham had just one effort on goal in a 2-0 loss at the King Power, suggesting clear-cut chances could be hard to come by for West Brom.

Keeping things compact and relying on the star quality of Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi looks a potent strategy for the Foxes, who have won on their last six league visits to the Hawthorns.

West Brom have been held to a draw by Portsmouth and been beaten by Derby in their last two home games and may not get much change out of a reliable Leicester defensive unit still boasting plenty of Premier League steel.

Thomas treading a fine line

Injuries restricted Leicester left-back Luke Thomas to only 14 appearances in the Premier League last season but he has reclaimed his place under Cifuentes and isn't shy of getting stuck in.

Thomas picked up three bookings last term, despite his limited playing time, and while he has yet to be shown a yellow card this term, he has committed seven fouls in his last five games, three of which came in last weekend's draw with Coventry.

Foxes can grind it out

Three of Leicester’s last four games have featured no more than two goals while West Brom’s last four have all been below the 2.5-goals mark.

It is not hard to see defences dominating in the Midlands but the extra class of Fatawu and Mavididi makes Leicester the likelier victor.

Under 2.5 goals

There have been just 13 goals scored in each of West Brom and Leicester's six Championship matches this term and another cagey encounter seems assured.

Abdul Fatawu to have a shot on target

The Leicester wideman has had five shots on target in his last five league games and scored in wins over Charlton and Birmingham.

Luke Thomas to commit a foul

The Foxes full-back made three fouls in last weekend's goalless draw with Coventry, taking his tally to seven in his last five league appearances.
