Stoke vs Sheffield United predictions
The stage is sense for a nerve-jangling conclusion to the Championship relegation scrap, but Stoke can take themselves out of the equation with a win over playoff-bound Sheffield United.
Eight teams are involved in the battle for survival although Stoke are better placed than the rest as they approach their penultimate game with a four-point cushion to the drop zone.
On returning from the March international break, Stoke were just a point above the bottom three with eight games left to play.
The Potters responded by taking 11 points from the next five games and celebrated last Friday's 2-0 success at home to Sheffield Wednesday as if they had beaten the drop.
However, Stoke's intensity levels dropped on Monday and they were severely punished by leaders Leeds, who ran out rampant 6-0 winners.
Stoke's players looked shell-shocked after the final whistle at Elland Road and their mood wouldn't have improved on hearing that relegation rivals Hull, Derby and Luton all picked up vital victories.
Having received a loud wake up call the challenge for Stoke is to secure another victory and they have a decent opportunity against a Sheffield United team adjusting to missing out on automatic promotion.
The Blades' quest for a top two finish came to an end on Monday evening when they were beaten 2-1 at Burnley.
There was a defiant post-match response from United manager Chris Wilder, who insisted that the club would still push for maximum points from their remaining two matches.
However, Wilder knows the main aim is to ensure the best possible preparation for the playoffs and that could mean reducing the risk of injuries to key players and getting some extra match sharpness into some of his fringe men.
United's line-up could feature at least a handful of changes and that may open the door for Stoke to claim a precious three points.
Key stat
Stoke are unbeaten in their last five home matches.
