Championship playoff final Bet Builder tips

Gustavo Hamer to score or assist

Sheffield United attacker Gustavo Hamer was named the Championship player of the season at the EFL awards ceremony but he can save his most significant contribution for the biggest game of the campaign.

The 27-year-old is preparing for his second outing in a Championship playoff final and will be hoping for a more positive outcome than two seasons ago when he was a part of the Coventry team which fell short against Luton.

Hamer sparkled for the Sky Blues that day, scoring a superb equalising goal, but he was later forced off with an injury and had to watch in anguish as his team-mates succumbed 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

United came calling later that year and they have every right to be satisfied with their significant investment.

Hamer was one of the Blades' better players in a miserable Premier League campaign last term and he has sparkled for them this term, contributing nine league goals and seven assists.

He was on target in the 3-0 playoff, semi-final second leg triumph over Bristol City and can play a match-winning role in the final against Sunderland at Wembley.

Trai Hume to be carded

Hamer has operated off the left side in recent games and should come into close contact with tough tackling Sunderland right-back Trai Hume, who tops his club's Championship card count with 11 yellows and one red.

Hume favours a front-foot style of defending but will be put under pressure by Hamer, as well as attack-minded Blades left-back Harrison Burrows, who makes plenty of forward runs and contributed six league goals and six assists as a result of his adventure.

Hume got through the semi-final games against Coventry without collecting a caution, but he looks a strong candidate for a card on Saturday.

Under 3.5 goals

Championship playoff finals are high stakes occasions which can lead to a fear of failure and a cautious approach for the teams involved.

Each of the last four have generated fewer than three goals so it makes sense to anticipate a low-scoring outcome under the Wembley arch.
