Burnley vs Sheffield United predictions

Sheffield United’s chances of automatic promotion from the Championship have taken a number of major knocks in recent weeks and Burnley can deliver the hammer blow when the pair meet at Turf Moor in Monday's heavyweight second-tier bout.

The Blades had been keeping pace with Scott Parker’s men and Leeds throughout what has been a back-and-forth race to return to the Premier League. But three defeats from their last four games have all but put an end to the visitors’ hopes of avoiding the lottery of the play-offs.

Defeats to Oxford, Millwall and Plymouth, the last of which saw Chris Wilder become embroiled in a spat with some of the Argyle team, leaves Sheffield United five points adrift of Burnley and Leeds with three games to play.

In sharp contrast, the Clarets are on a remarkable 30-game unbeaten run in the league and have conceded just 14 goals in 43 games.

They are fancied to secure promotion for themselves with a success over a beleaguered Blades outfit. Scott Parker’s men have been rock-solid in recent weeks, winning seven of their last nine games.

The Clarets are unbeaten at home this season and have conceded only six goals in 21 league matches at Turf Moor.

They should be able to hold their nerve and get over the line against a team they beat 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

It may not be pretty, but Burnley are can grind it out against their promotion rivals and seal a return to the top flight.
