Match preview

Turf Moor is gearing up for the most significant Championship fixture of 2023 with promotion-chasing pair Burnley and West Brom looking to further press their Premier League ambitions.

Burnley, who have won eight on the spin in the league, have set the pace at the top since the end of October, but the Clarets will be steeling themselves for a tough challenge from the Baggies, who head to Lancashire seeking a fifth win on the trot and a tenth win in 11 league outings.

Albion have risen from rock-bottom to sixth since the start of November and would jump up to third if they can win at Turf Moor.

However, the trip to Burnley is their biggest challenge since Carlos Corberan took the reins in October and they head north without injured winger Matt Phillips and suspended centre-forward Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Albion showed a strong mentality to triumph at Luton last Saturday, coming from two goals behind to win 3-2, but they would have had a better chance in their toughest game of the season with a fully-fit squad.

Burnley are on a nine-game winning streak at Turf Moor and have opened up a five-point gap to second-placed Sheffield United and a 16-point advantage over Watford in third.

Automatic promotion looks there for the taking and the Clarets can edge closer to a top-flight return with an 18th league win of the campaign.

Key stat

Burnley have won their last nine home fixtures.
