1 Middlesbrough
Of the relegated trio Middlesbrough seem the most ambitious about seeking an immediate return to the top flight. They have made some fine additions and look potential champions.

2 Fulham
The Cottagers' main challenge was to keep the bulk of their squad together and they appear to be succeeding. They were hugely impressive in the last few months of last season and will make a bold challenge if starting the 2017-18 campaign in a similar vein.

3 Aston Villa
Villa boss Steve Bruce wanted a leader and secured his top target by persuading John Terry to drop down a division. Bruce's side were mentally weak on too many occasions last season and should improve, although promotion is far from guaranteed.
