Grimsby delivered one of the biggest shocks in EFL Cup history with their remarkable penalty shoout success over Manchester United, and they can move through to the competition's last 16 by defeating Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The third-round fixture in south Yorkshire should hold no fears for the in-form Mariners, who are fifth in League Two having accumulated 15 points from eight games.

Wednesday reached this stage by battling past Premier League Leeds, drawing 1-1 before winning 3-0 on penalties, although they were highly fortunate after losing the shot count 25 to six.

Owls' head coach Henrik Pedersen has been making wholesale changes for EFL Cup games and a likely continuation of that policy will assist the opposition.

Grimsby are decent value to win the game, but they will not have too many concerns if it goes to penalties.

They showed nerves of steel against United – converting 12 of 13 spot-kicks – and would fancy their chances in a similar scenario at Hillsborough, where they will be cheered on by a large travelling support.
