Macclesfield’s slim survival hopes have been given a much-needed lift with three wins in their last four games and their recent resurgence has made the relegation market more appealing.

The National League champions were 1-6 to be heading back to non-league ranks at the first time of asking three weeks ago with just seven points to show from their opening 18 games. But recent performances have improved and the appointment of Sol Campbell has had an immediate impact.

The Cheshire club have moved to within four points of safety and, in a weak division where at least eight sides can be considered in danger, they may prove better than their relegation quotes of 4-7 imply.
