Conference League predictions

Strasbourg made a big statement of Conference League intent when they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 and they should anticipate another successful night against British opposition when they head to Aberdeen on Thursday.

The Ligue 1 outfit have won four of their last five away games in Europe, so a trip to Pittodrie should hold few fears, even though the Dons are unbeaten in their last eight games following a 2-1 league reverse against Hibernian.

The French team have the edge but they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last ten matches on the road, so Jimmy Thelin's side should be confident they can find the net.

However, their European form has been underwhelming – they have drawn against Larnaca and Noah and suffered a 6-0 humbling against AEK Athens – so take the visitors to come out on top of a game in which both teams find the net.

League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers have better memories of their game against AEK after they left the Greek capital with a 1-1 draw, so that should give them confidence for a trip to Iceland, where they will face Breidablik.

Both teams have yet to taste Conference League victory this season but Breidablik have scored in just one of their four matches, a 2-2 draw with Turkish outfit Samsunspor in their most recent outing.

Rovers' performance in Athens and a decent showing in a 2-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk entitle them to feel they can get something from their trip north and it is worth backing them in the double-chance market.
