Crystal Palace's adventures in the Conference League have not been the cakewalk many had expected but they should be confident of gaining their third win in this season's competition when they head over the Irish Sea to face Shelbourne on Thursday.

Their hosts finished their League of Ireland season last month but have found life tough in this competition as they have not scored in any of their four games.

Shelbourne vs Crystal Palace preview

Crystal Palace have been unable to take the Conference League by the scruff of the neck in the anticipated manner this season, but they should be able to kick their campaign into gear with a comfortable win in Ireland against Shelbourne.

The Eagles have fallen to defeats against Larnaca and Strasbourg after a Uefa ruling dumped them in Europe's third competition, but they remain a cut above most of the opposition and that should be evident when they head to Dublin.

Victories over Dynamo Kyiv and AZ have shown they are a force to be reckoned with and their defence should be able to hold firm against their League of Ireland opponents.

It has been a long season for Shelbourne, who finished their domestic campaign six weeks ago and they have already played 12 games in Europe this season.

But the most worrying statistic is they have failed to score in any of their four league-phase games against Hacken, Shkendija, KF Drita and AZ.

While those matches have been relatively close, this represents a massive step up in class even if, as expected, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner rests a few players before Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester City.

A failure to make their mark against inferior opposition to the team they face on Thursday does not bode well for Shelbourne, which makes a bet on Palace to win without conceding an attractive bet, particularly as the south Londoners have won four of their last five games on their travels.

Good opportunity for Nketiah to make his mark

With a Premier League match against Manchester City on the agenda this weekend, it looks unlikely that Glasner will take any risks with his top performers so in the potential absence of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eddie Nketiah could have his chance to shine.

The former Arsenal forward was on hand to score against Fulham at the weekend and a clash against weaker opposition could mean it is his evening to make a big impression.
