Canada suffered their first defeat at the Concacaf Gold Cup on Wednesday, losing 3-1 to tournament favourites Mexico, but they are red-hot favourites to bounce back with a victory over Cuba, who have lost four players to defections.

There is a long history of Cuban sportsmen defecting and claiming asylum in the USA and the trend has continued.

Experienced defender Yasmany Lopez defected after the Cubans lost 7-0 to Mexico in their opening game and he been followed by midfielders Daniel Luis, Reynaldo Perez and Luismel Morris, who jumped ship after the 3-0 defeat to Martinique on Wednesday.

Beleaguered head coach Raul Mederos must try to put together a competitive team to face Canada but it looks like mission impossible and the markets anticipate a heavy defeat.

Canada's task is simple – win the game as handsomely as possible and ensure progress to the quarter-finals.

They are likely to go with an attack-minded side featuring Gent's highly-rated striker Jonathan David, who was restricted to a substitute's role against Mexico.

David started the first game against Martinique and netted twice.

He looks the main danger to Cuba and is a solid first-scorer bet at 11-4.

Another one-sided contest is on the cards between tournament favourites Mexico and Martinique.

The Mexicans have dominated Group A and are 1-20 to make it three wins from three.

Martinique have suffered four group stage eliminations in five appearances at the Concacaf Gold Cup finals and are set to be boarding another early flight home.
