Salzburg have one of the youngest squads at this year’s Club World Cup but it could be a veteran Pachuca striker who does the damage when the teams meet in this Group H opener.

Salomon Rondon is 35 but remains a potent threat up front for the Mexican side, having scored 15 league goals for them last season.

His side have had something of a disappointing time of things since winning the 2024 Concacaf Champions League and as a result veteran manager Guillermo Almada was recently replaced by former Mexico boss Jaime Lozano.

This will be his first competitive game in charge and with Real Madrid and Al Hilal in their section, both teams will be desperate to get a victory in this opening game given those tough tasks on their horizon.

Salzburg are undoubtedly the weakest European team at the tournament. They finished second in the Austrian Bundesliga and lost seven of their eight Champions League group games, conceding 27 times.

They kept just one clean sheet in their last nine league games of the season and may struggle to hold out against Rondon, who scored in Pachuca’s 3-0 win over Botafogo en route to the Intercontinental Cup final last year.
