Who are the favourites to be the Club World Cup top goalscorer?
Kylian Mbappe – 5-1
Watching his former club Paris St-Germain lift the Champions League trophy must have been painful for Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe and he will be determined to make his mark at the Club World Cup.
The French forward was the leading scorer in his first La Liga campaign for Real, racking up 31 goals in 34 appearances, and he could make a flying start to the tournament against Group H opponents Al-Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg.
Erling Haaland – 6-1
Erling Haaland's club season ended on a low note as Manchester City suffered a shock defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
Despite an injury-disrupted campaign, Haaland has still scored 42 goals in 53 competitive appearances for City and Norway in 2024-25 and he should pose a huge threat to opposition defences at the Club World Cup.
Harry Kane – 13-2
Bayern Munich's Bundesliga triumph ended Harry Kane's long wait for a trophy and England's record goalscorer will be hoping to add a Club World Cup medal to his collection.
Kane warmed up for the tournament with goals in England's June fixtures against Andorra and Senegal and the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot winner has been the Bundesliga's top scorer in both of his seasons with Bayern.
Ousmane Dembele – 11-1
After scoring only three league goals for Paris St-Germain in 2023-24, Ousmane Dembele transformed himself into a lethal finisher following Mbappe's departure to Madrid.
Dembele ended the Ligue 1 campaign with 21 goals, at a rate of one every 83 minutes, and his eight Champions League strikes helped PSG become European champions for the first time.
Serhou Guirassy – 16-1
A Champions League quarter-final hat-trick against Barcelona earned Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy a share of the Golden Boot with Barca winger Raphinha.
Guirassy has had a couple of outstanding seasons in the Bundesliga, scoring 28 goals for Stuttgart in 2023-24 and 21 in his first campaign with BVB, and the Guinea international may well enhance his reputation at the Club World Cup.
Vinicius Jr – 16-1
After being pipped to the Ballon d'Or by Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, Vinicius Jr had a solid 2024-25 season for Real Madrid.
The Brazil forward scored 11 goals in La Liga and eight in 12 Champions League starts including a second-half hat-trick in the league-phase win over Borussia Dortmund.
Alexander Sorloth – 16-1
Crystal Palace fans may be surprised to see Alexander Sorloth featuring on this list alongside Mbappe, Haaland and Kane but the Norwegian frontman has gone from strength to strength since his forgettable 2018 spell at Selhurst Park.
Sorloth, top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig in 2019-20, amassed 23 La Liga goals for Villarreal in 2023-24 and scored 20 times for Atletico Madrid this term at a rate of 1.15 per 90 minutes – better than Mbappe or Robert Lewandowski.
Lionel Messi – 20-1
During his glittering career at Barcelona, Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball award at the 2009 and 2011 Club World Cups and the Argentina legend is back for another crack at the tournament in the colours of Inter Miami.
Messi will turn 38 on June 24 but he remains a force to be reckoned with in MLS, scoring 31 goals in 38 appearances, and Group A rivals Al Ahly, Palmeiras and Porto will be wary of the Miami magician.
Lautaro Martinez – 20-1
Inter captain Lautaro Martinez suffered a tough end to the European season as the Nerazzurri finished a close second to Napoli in Serie A before a devastating 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.
Martinez scored eight goals in his final eight Champions League outings and he is aiming to replicate last summer's success in the USA, where he won the Golden Boot during Argentina's Copa America triumph.
Julian Alvarez – 20-1
Manchester City certainly missed Julian Alvarez after his surprise move to Atletico Madrid last summer and he celebrated 17 La Liga goals and another seven in the Champions League in his first season with Atleti.
Alvarez scored twice in City's 4-0 victory over Fluminense in the 2023 Club World Cup final and that brace was enough to earn him a share of the Golden Boot alongside Al-Ittihad's Karim Benzema and Al Ahly's Ali Maaloul.
